Whew, just off a series of e mails with Lorenzo De Stefano, who is Director of the film Hearing is Believing which I am the Director of Cinematography on. The crew will be down at the Blue Whale in LA filming a performance by Rachel and the remarkable Taylor Eigsti for the project Thursday night. I on the other hand, will be on Bali working on some development projects for my wife’s company, and meeting up with a couple film makers there to possibly create something rather exotic.
Life is hectic in a good way. This week saw a fantastic amount of work fulfillment.
Project 1. A 400 plus work hour piece was delivered for publication on the relation between Nuclear disasters at Chernobyl and Fukushima with Nuclear Powered plants in the U.S.
Project 2. A fun commercial shoot with Coldwell Banker real estate agent Denice Watkins Smith up in Mountain View Ca.
Project 3. A shockingly random yet dramatic music video shoot for day one of production for my son’s upcoming release on a song titled “We Love You Satan” which features brilliant writing and composing. It was a night time shoot and tested the low light capability of both the Canon 5DM2 and Canon 70D systems to their maximum. I just looked through the dailies and they sing! The acting by the three person cast was as good as anything I have shot in the feature world. Really glad I was able to rise to the level this young collection of talent put out there.
Project 4. I got to shoot some Surfing! Woo hoo! A golden hour with Larry Ugale, and another with my wife, Donna. The imagery with my wife is for a TV pilot called Upcyclers. We are both quite excited about it and the crew and producers were said to be awesome by my wife. She is hard to impress. We did some long lens super tight motion capture with the Canon 600 F4 IS lens, a big fluid head, and the Canon 70D. Shockingly the 70D was able to pull focus reasonably well using the touch screen! Never would have believed it if I had not seen it. It has it’s limitations of course and is not always 100 percent accurate on subjects moving rapidly at camera, but on side to side frame action, it worked pretty well
Here is a little clip from what I believe was day 23 of production in Hearing is Believing. The title is Malambo as performed by Rachel Flowers at Libby Bowl. I am proud of my camera Dept. Everyone rocked it. Edit is by Nik Blakovich, done on the fly so that you all can see what we are building in this unique project.
Tomorrow… travel…. I will be writing and updating this blog from the road. We will be living someplace very quiet. I look forward to some deep breaths and the always warm embrace of the Balinese people and yes that wonderful smile of our friends there.
Aloha nui loa.

OMG. Rachel Flowers. Can’t wait to read about Bali!
