I watched as the big white gull hopped frantically around in the sandy beige rocks of the beachside jetty that runs along Coast Highway 1.  Slowly I approached the obviously injured bird, not wanting to create any additional panic for it.  As I peered at the damage, it tried to sequester itself deeper into the jetty shadows which grew blacker as the sun rapidly disappeared. On this Fourth of July,  a short note. As we memorialize our Nation’s birth it is a point of honor and gratitude that we recall the quest to embrace and engage in risk. Forward momentum and a new horizon would be found for those willing to set foot and family on a leaky ship. A Patriot’s Recompense

Today is a special day. One many may not realize the portent of. Today marks the return of America being able to recognize and honor the sacrifice of it’s military. Phillip A. Myers, a staff sergeant in the U.S. Air Force, body was returned to US soil last night and the American press corp covered it. The image of his flag draped coffin marked the end to a news blackout that The Bush Administration fostered so that the American people could be better manipulated for political purposes.
