The Morning After (Veterans Day)

I did not do my customary blog entry on Veterans Day yesterday. To be honest, it was more out of embarrassment, than anything else. As everyone went about engaging the socially acceptable platitude of “Thanking a Veteran”,  I could not help but be very uncomfortable by what I have been watching happen to our Veterans in recent years. The day as a holiday yesterday, made me even more miserable about being an American. It is no secret, nor is it news in any way, that War is waged on the backs of our youth. That the Political Will, embedded in

Sea-Space Summit DC 2013

I head to DC on Monday with Dr. Andrea Neal to participate in the Sea-Space Initiative Summit, which is headed up by Guillermo Söhnlein of Opus Novum. Our intention is to get a look at the ongoing crisis in Japan, and examine some of the socio-political architecture which led to the catastrophic failure event at the six reactor Fukushima-Daichi Power Plant.  It is a disaster of massive scale. However, in that lies a great opportunity to create some fantastic change. http://seaspaceinitiative.org/participants-dc13/ The last Summit was at Google, and this was what we did (among other things). I was in Dr. Lu’s

Tis the Season

For? We all know what the Holidays in North America typically are significant of: the prior sacrifices and services of the forbearers of the Nation and Christianity. Of course aside from those, at the core, it should be about the inception of gratitude. Traditions are funny things. Over time the embeds get, well… buried. Seth Godin has this to say about it today. Black Friday. Really? I hate the name. Black, the absence of light, love, or gratitude. My wife, Donna had to explain it to me. Keep in mind, such has been my own transformation, that she was

The Genie Effect

It starts early in our lives, that yearning for Change. To do, be, go: to another state of being. Simple as the fable of Aladdin and the Magic Lamp, which when rubbed, summons a genie who has the power to grant three wishes, the dream to be able to change what is, has become an embed as a fable. In the fable’s bastardized versions,  the wish always goes awry. Generally due to making the wrong request. You get what is asked for. But at it’s end of course, the result was not what was wanted. An onerous result can

Blue Note

There have been a  series of pointed questions aimed in my direction the past year or so. Many of those have resulted in my being invited into conversations, where my presence as a Creative was sought for a variety of purposes. A year ago, I laughed at the preposterously huge scope of the problems. Today I am stunned by the knowledge that we have located solutions for them. In ONE year. These are huge issues. So how to start, in seeing that they are implemented?     Behind it all, is my firm belief that only in a collective effort,

Letter to a Friend

Sometimes waking moments are comprised of a tap on the shoulder regarding someone I care about. The note below, is as a result of one of those mornings. The person I sent it to, is someone who I respect as a visionary human being. The images here, are what occurred when the ocean reined over first consciousness, and I rose to meet it. “Found myself thinking about you today. Just a note to say hi, and that I hope everything is going well, where ever you are, when this finds you. Been dealing with incredibly smart and compassionate human beings

Pick a Lane

In life and in our Western Cultural assessment of what will inevitably amount to a rather short term existence on this blue ball, we are constantly encouraged by the status quo, to “pick a lane” for ourselves. Or at least, this was the method employed till this latest socio-economic meltdown. The concept was to attend school, move in to a field that would best suit our fiscal goals, and supply the road to our own future happiness. Each day, you were to  arrive at that job, and park right between the lines. Never vary that. Or face severe retribution

Being Present

In my own creative process, little choice exists for me in my work.  In order to succeed, I must be present, in the right frame of mind, at a propitious moment. This requires that I listen, or “be present” in order to perceive that something important will occur ahead, in the time frame we call the Road of Life. I am there before my body is. That is how what I do works. I know where to be when not many others seem to see or care about that. But anyone could do it. So why don’t they? Why don’t

Vision

Vision is one of those multifaceted aspects . It is indirectly related to motivation. When one embraces motivation, and engages it, the word transmutates from noun to verb, as action is required But what is vision? Here is a great example. Often a communicator has a vision for how to motivate people that is not readily apparent, as it is rooted deep within the thought processes and soul of the artist. I do the vision quest thing a lot. I will follow a thread of interest,  let it develop within me, and when it is ready, a lot like the

High Art

There is a friend of mine, Joe Cardella, who has coined a phrase: “Art Saves Lives” When looked at sideways you can truly understand that statement. However, approach it with logical pragmatism and you will in fact, experience NO magical transformation in your life at all. The reason for this is because the human heart establishes parameters that allow for a daily experiential flow that keeps everything in a predictable array of experience. What this does is to allow for order. It has long been said that genius borders on madness. Well, high Art endeavors to lift Man into the
